Assessments and reports
Our approach to teaching and learning is to empower students to take charge of their school journey. Teachers will help students set personal and academic goals for success in the classroom, while parents are encouraged to support, reinforce and complement these at home. If students face challenges, as a support unit we can help keep track of their progress and find ways to help them.
Student:teacher feedback
Our assessment and reporting cycle between the teacher and student is focussed on a continual feedback approach with intervention performed regularly, as required, at the classroom level.
Our teachers recognise and highlight student success, growth and perseverance, as well as identify areas for improvement and implement mechanisms to boost student outcomes, confidence and motivation for learning.
Parent:teacher communication
Parent interaction is a priority and it is understood that having one parent-teacher interview per semester is generally insufficient. There may be many times in which communication between a parent and teacher is warranted. The desired approach is to support parents to interact with their child’s teacher via Compass, email and face-to-face, whenever required.
Our parent:teacher communication approach includes:
- Two progress checks per semester (one in Week 7 of Term 1 and 3, and one in Week 4 of Term 2 and 4)
- An end-of-semester A to E grade per subject as part of the Australian Curriculum requirements
- Teachers proactively communicate with parents via Compass, email, phone or face to face, as required
- The school hosts a meet and greet at the beginning of the school year to promote connection between teachers and parents
- Parents are encouraged to communicate at any time and request a conversation with teachers to develop a clear understanding as to their child’s progress.
