For more than 25 years, the Henley Sports Academy has helped student athletes to realise their sporting and academic potential.
The Henley Sports Academy at Henley High School was established as part of funding provided by the Department for Education in November of 1997 to assist student athletes to maximise their potential while achieving a balance between their academic, sporting and life goals.
Initially, the program ran from Year 8 to 11 and students completed 220 minutes per week over the year, accessing high-quality coaches provided by the school or in conjunction with State Sporting Associations.
We offer 10 elite Sports Academies
Sports offered in the first year were football, netball, basketball, athletics, cricket and softball. In 2001, four new sports were added to the program: hockey, tennis, soccer and surf life saving.
Over the past quarter century, ongoing enhancements have been made to the program to meet the educational and sporting needs of our students. Some of these improvements include:
- Introduction of dance into the program
- Establishment of a Year 8 overlay program supporting Henley High School’s middle schooling model
- Providing a curriculum pathway up to Year 12
- Incorporating a variety of accreditations into the program including national coaching and officiating courses
- Fostering stronger relationships between the school, State Sporting Assosications, sporting clubs, specialist coaches and sporting professionals and local primary schools.
